Types of Yarn
Super Spun Silk Yarn
This is produced from finest silk tops & schappe spun. It is available in counts 2.5, 5, 8, 16, 30 and 40nm. We hold a stock service of these types in 2 fold and small sample weights are available. We hold these in natural undyed and the goods can be dyed as required.
Spun Silk Yarn
This contains the light, natural slubs that are a characteristic of its quality. Colour ranges are available in both 120/2 and 60/2nm and weights are available for immediate despatch, the minimum order is 500grams per shade. These qualities are also available undyed. We can also offer 140/2nm and 210/2nm undyed or dyed as required.
Fancy Spun Silk Yarn
We currently stock several types of this quality. The yarns contain slubs and nepps. They are available in ecru 20/1 and 40/1nm. They are also available in Tussah Silk - 3/1nm.
Silk Filament Yarn
This can be supplied in 3/1nm – Original White. It is available in 2kg packs (100gramm hanks)
Silk Boucle Yarn (loop yarn)
This is a loop yarn which we hold in stock and can be dyed to order.
Silk Noil Yarns
Our two Silk Noil based Yarns – Mulberry and Tussah – are available in a choice of counts and plys.
Bourette (Noil) Silk
This waste contains traces of both vegetable matter (mulberry stalks etc.) and fragments of chrysalis. As a result, we open and clean the material prior to spinning. Yarns are then spun on the woollen system. Bourette yarns are widely used in both woollen and worsted suitings, upholstery, soft furnishings, munitions bags and dish cloths (silk can absorb up to one third of its own weight of water without feeling wet – though price tends to limit its use in this direction nowadays). Bourette is a strong mulberry silk yarn suitable for a large number of apparel uses. It contains the natural chrysalis and vegetable particles which are a characteristic of this yarn.
